November - rugby, rugby, rugby

What is November? Rugby, rugby, rugby, of course.

What rugby? Well, the autumn internationals, of course! We went to the Wales v Argentina match, and enjoyed it. There was lots of passion from both sets of fans, and lots of singing to boot. And Wales won. Huzzah!

After that match, though, Kathy decided that she would not go to the pub on the days of international matches. The crowds are just too much for her, and she freaks out a bit. Plus it detracts from Matt's enjoyment. So in future he'll go to the matches, she'll go shopping – or something.

The weather in November was just horrible – cold, wet and grey. And people wonder why we're going back to Australia! Kathy got terribly depressed, and Matt got sick. Well, to be honest he got a chest infection which triggered off his asthma. We've got a useless medical practice we're registered at. The idiot doctor said, despite Matt having his Australian asthma card, that there was no proof he had asthma and that if he still thinks he wants a new inhaler to come back after the infection has cleared up, and the nurse will do an asthma test on him. But he can't breathe now!!! So he came home and ordered ventolin off the internet, and when it turned up a few days later got instant relief.

At least the lights were turned on.

At the end of the month Liz and Paul came to stay. Yay! And also not yay, because it means they're heading off back home soon! The last weekend in the month Matt and Paul went to the rugby

with the other Aussies

Sheeds and Lewis

and enjoyed the win very much, thank you.

The crowd at the Stadium

Paul apparently had a 'moment' at the start – the boys were a little late getting to the ground, and so were going up the stairs to their seats as the anthems were being sung. Paul had never heard anything quite like it – the passion with which the Welsh sing is something to behold. Pity they didn't do much more singing, but then they didn't have much to sing about. Ah well.

Matt and a couple of Welsh guys after the match

While the boys were at the rugby, Kathy and Liz went to Bath, to the Christmas Markets that are held there. It's apparently 'just like you get in Germany'. No, it's not. It was crowded and the stalls were very small – and full of expensive tat. There was nothing which grabbed us and said “buy me!”. Still, we had fun wandering around the shops of Bath before heading back to Cardiff in the pouring rain.

The next day the girls went shopping while the boys recovered from hangovers. That evening we had a fantastic meal out at the home of Dave, our butcher (and one of the guys Matt drinks with) and his wife Karen. They cooked the most amazing rack of pork – so luscious and delicious. It was a great evening to end the month on.

After that, we had to say goodbye to Liz and Paul. We miss them both – especially as by the time we get back to Canberra they will have moved back to Brisbane. I guess we'll be racking up lots of frequent flyer points travelling between the 2 cities!

Onwards to Christmas.....
