April Showers

Easter. We had planned to go to Bristol, but Matt had a nasty cold which had gone down in to his chest, so we stayed at home. Matt played on the X-Box and Kathy made Hot Cross Buns. Matt had a new HDMI cable and some nice new headphones, so he was happy (and Kathy was happy that she didn't have to listen to the game). Then we watched District 9 – which is a very cool movie. Because it was Easter, the weather was cold, damp and windy. We had a meal out at the Conway, which was delicious, and then lots of stews and casseroles. Kathy's not sure what she's done, but Matt's preferring more and more vegetables. So Kathy obliged with lots of chick peas, lentils and bean soups.

After Easter the weather improved of course, as more and more spring flowers started to come out. So we started going out again. Couple of lunches at a place called Ask (one really great, the other so so) and at Cibo (of course), and at the Conway. Mmmmm. We like eating out, especially when it's so easy to do.

After ANZAC Day Pat and Harry arrived. Thankfully they were booked to arrive when they were, because it was after the skies reopened after the Icelandic volcano ash cloud cleared. They were here for Pat's 70th birthday. We took them out to Le Gallois y Cymru.

Kathy and Pat on their way to the restaurant

It was magnificent. We had fabulous food, great wines and fantastic service. It was a large meal, but we didn't feel stuffed. We had beautiful, fresh, seasonal produce. Asparagus, fois gras, snails, salt marsh lamb, cheese (15!!),

Go on - count them. Ordered stinkiest to least stinky

and a beautiful flourless orange cake. Then we explored their brand new deli next door. Fantastic. Must explore more later. Lunch took several hours, and we were so full that after a post prandial bevvie

Pat and Harry at the Halfway

we decided we didn't need any more food.

On the 30th we walked in to town through Bute Park. Pat and Harry had some cockles from the Central Markets, then we caught a bus down to Cardiff Bay for lunch at Senior Valentino's. After lunch it was back in to town so that Pat and Harry could buy some train tickets, then Kathy and Pat headed home while Matt and Harry caught up with John and George (from the Friday Night crowd) before heading off to the Halfway for a couple of hours, which Harry really loved..

That was April. The rest of the visit is in May!
